The Danish-made flame retardant BurnBlock, which was released last year, has been declared totally harmless in a test conducted by the Danish Technological Institute.

The toxicology study was performed at the request of Falck.

According to Director of Falck Technology, J. Damsgaard, a toxicology was an absolute necessity befor the company could use the product.

"The test results meet all our requirements for a product that Falck must buy and use," he says about the product, which so far exists in liquid form and sprayed on various items.

The Director will not comment onr what purpose and in what quantities, Falck will use flame retardant. An example of a possible application include nursing homes, where old semi senile and half demented smokers constitute a danger to themselves - a hazard that is reduced significantly if the quilts, rugs, curtains, etc. are treated with flame retardant.

The certificate from the Danish Technological Institute says that the flame retardant is a natural component in the body. And the natural toxicity in rats and fish is the same as salt.

The Danish Technological Institute writes that BurnBlock can have an irritating effect on eyes, but the effect is estimated to be less than that from lemons and fruit juice. BurnBlock was released on the Danish market one year ago and the product is sold on the Danish market in a number of hardware and paint stores.
